just got my first 10/22 and wow, it's awesome! love how it shoots straight outta the box, but i can see why everyone goes crazy customizing these. trying to pace myself, though. what upgrades or little mods made a big difference for you? anything worth doing first? looking to make it more fun to shoot!

Just bought 2 10/22's for the grand kids, Stock had to long a pull for the youngest so I went ahead and got 2 Advanced Technology AR-22 Gen 2 stocks because I knew I should give the older one a choice for which one he liked the best. To my surprise he chose to keep the stock that came on the 10/22. I don't let them shoot my 10/22 because I did a trigger job on it and it has less than a 2 pound trigger with no travel. Ruger 10/22's have a rotary type hammer and doing a trigger job on the stock trigger is a pain. I replaced the trigger with a Volquartsen Target trigger and reworked the hammer myself, shimmed the trigger to take all the slop out and adjusted over travel .

If you are not well acquainted with these best to buy a kit with the hammer in it. There are a multitude of things you can do with the 10/22 but the first thing I would do is scope it, and then the trigger work.

I shot Competition Rem-Fire in High School and that was the first thing we would do to a new rifle is adjust the trigger down to 16 oz. If you want to have a general hunting trigger that is safe but would help improve accuracy a 3 pound trigger would be the way to shoot for.
