I just got into handgun hunting last year. Killed my first deer with one, a doe.

It is a Taurus Raging Hunter 6.75 in 454 Casull. Im shooting a 300gr XTP at 1500 fps, my reloads.

What are you using and how long have you been hunting with a handgun?

I got into handgun hunting a few years ago, maybe 4or 5. What really pulled me in was how much more intentional it feels, there’s a greater focus on distance, angles, and patience. I started with a .44 Mag since I wanted something robust yet manageable and it really taught me a lot about controlling recoil and making thoughtful shot selections. I currently switch between a 10mm and a .44 depending on my hunting location. The 10mm feels light and quick when I’m moving through thicker areas, but when I’m set up in open timber, I always end up going back to the .44. There’s just something about the way it balances that feels right to me.

Handgun hunted in the past. Used a couple different guns.
7.5” Super Blackhawk 44mag with Thompson Center scope.
7.5” Super Redhawk 44mag with Leupold scope.

If I were to go again, I have a couple different options, depending on terrain and prey.
5” Lew Horton S&W 627 Performance Center (8 rds of 357mag) that’s been Magnaported.
4” S&W 500mag. Great knockdown power, terrible follow up speed.

Started hunting squirrels in the 70's with Hawes Western Marshal 22 shooting shorts.my first deer hunting pistol was a S&W 44 mag which I still have 6",SS,magnaported Hogue lamo camo grips, very accurate. I now am hunting with a Dan Wesson RZ10 open sights with Barnes 155gr vortex.1/2" off a rest at 50yds.drops 4"@ 100yds. It's been quite effective.
