Been thinking about building my first AR-15 for a while now. It's finally time to dive in, and I've started checking out parts. I see some good deals, but honestly, I feel like I'm just scratching the surface here.

Going for a basic rifle build to start, probably sticking with 5.56, but I’m open to suggestions if there's a better route for a newbie.

I’d love to hear if there are any brands people avoid. Also, what hidden costs should I be aware of? I’ve heard stories about rookie mistakes—any tips would help.

Should I just play it safe and buy one already built? I appreciate any advice, even if it’s just lessons learned the hard way when you were starting out.

Man, building's fun but it sneaks up on you with tools, mags, optics, and extras you don't budget for. I will advice you stick with decent brands, avoid cheap no-name parts and if you are overwhelmed, grab a good factory rifle first

Just stick with 5.56 for your first build, cheap ammo and does everything. Get good stuff like BCM or Aero, don't cheap out on no-name parts. Remember you'll need tools, optics, mags, and adds up quick. Honestly might want to just buy a PSA rifle first and see how you like it. What kind of budget you working with rg115?

If you're new, man, I'd say start simple, stick with 5.56, good budget parts from trusted brands, and don't chase fancy upgrades right away

They're not that complicated... Learning is half the fun. Buy all the parts from a decent company and have at it... The first may cost you double to build but again... It's fun and rewarding. But you can get a Ruger, Smith & Wesson or similar pretty cheap now... Under $600 online. If you really wanna try one on a pinto budget then look at Bear Creek Armory... Under $400 shipped... I've had many of there products while getting my feet wet... No complaints here...
