I've been thinking about taking my little one out fishing for the first time, but I'm a complete newbie when it comes to this. My kid's 5 and I want it to be a fun experience. I saw some starter rods at a local store and wondered if those are decent for beginners? I'm not familiar with tackle or bait either, so any simple recommendations would be great. I just want to make sure we catch something and have a good time!

Buy him or her a light cane pole or a collapsible fiberglass crappie pole and basic hooks , sinkers and floats . Find a nice quiet place with decent fishing and teach them to bait fish from the bank with worms or crickets . A 5 year old does not make much difference in a Bluegill and a bass as long as it pulls the float under and stays hooked till you get it on the bank.
