If you’re looking for solid training, I can’t recommend CQB Training Group up in Huntsville enough. I’ve been through their defensive pistol fundamentals course. The instructors really know their stuff. They come from real-life law enforcement and military backgrounds, which makes a huge difference. They focus on practical skills that you’ll actually need in real defensive situations, not just checking off a list to meet some legal requirements. During the course, we did a ton of live fire exercises, practiced drawing from the holster, worked through malfunction drills, and learned how to shoot on the move. We even got to use cover effectively and went through scenario-based training where we had to make decisions under stress. No more just punching holes in stationary paper.
What really stuck with me though, was how they didn’t just throw techniques at us and call it a day. They took the time to explain the 'why' behind everything we were doing, plus they made sure we understood the legal side of things when it comes to using force in AL. Honestly, this is something I found a lot of basic CCW classes skip over, but it’s such crucial info to have. It was a fantastic experience, and I walked away feeling way more prepared and confident!
